What is a juice detox?

By definition, a juice cleanse is when a person consumes only freshly extracted fruit and vegetable juices for a period of 24 hrs or more. During a juice cleanse, your body can preserve energy by not having to digest foods, as nutrients are delivered directly to the gut. As a result, the body can get to work releasing toxins and repairing damaged tissues and cells and resetting your gut bacteria.

What are the benefits of a juice cleanse?

A juice cleanse can act as a way of identifying and eliminating a majority of food allergies and sensitivities. It reduces the burden on the digestive system, allowing it to heal.

How should I prepare for a cleanse?

There are a few things listed below that you can do in preparation for your cleanse that will make it a more beneficial and enjoyable experience. During the first few days of a cleanse it’s possible to feel a little tired; the body is working extra hard to not only digest foods already consumed prior to your cleanse, but to also clean up toxins and waste matter that are being dumped into the blood stream as part of the detoxification process.

To make this first stage of cleansing a little easier it is advised to remove, meat, bread, dairy, alcohol and caffeine from your diet, at least three days prior to the start of your cleanse. This will lessen the volume of toxins and waste to be dealt with by the body during the first 3 days.

Once you commence your cleanse, you will have freed up a lot of extra time and energy which world have otherwise have been spent, shopping for food, eating, digesting and perhaps feeling sluggish from what you would have eaten. Some of you may also be starting to worry that you will feel a void in your day due to replacing your usual meals and snacks with juices… but fear not! There is plenty to do to keep you occupied during your cleanse and nor will you have to worry about being hungry, the juices provided for you will be more than enough to keep you feeling full and energized!

And don’t think that you have to totally banish thoughts of food from your mind whilst you’re doing the cleanse to help you stay focused, we’re not super human and it would be silly to think that we don’t need or crave food, WE ALL LOVE FOOD! We WANT you to think about food! Get some books on nutrition, new cookbooks or pull out the old cookbooks that have been sitting up in your kitchen collecting dust.

Arrange a dinner party for when you complete your cleanse, think about all of the wonderful, healthy and delicious foods that you can eat which will make you feel energized, happy and healthy!! YUM!

What should I expect on a juice cleanse?

The time has come to repair your body from the effects of years of poor diet, environmental pollution, alcohol consumption, and whatever else your body has had to endure. As your body cannibalizes on sick cells and fat, toxins are released into the blood and can make you feel at worst like you have cold-like symptoms. But fear not my dedicated juice-guzzling friends. This period is short and will only last for a few days. Stick with it! It is not unnatural to think that feeling this way must be an indication that you should discontinue juicing and resume eating. You know what they say, “better out than in.” The more toxins that you have in your body the worse you will feel. So those of you of who have only ever eaten home grown organic foods and drunken twice-blessed holy water, fear not! The rest of us… it will take a little will power. However, take refuge in knowing that the lower the lows, the greater the highs.

This brings me on to the stuff we all want to hear!

Without having to digest heavy protein and fibre when consuming a juice cleanse diet, you should feel more energised from the consistent flow and hydration that the body is receiving.

Those who have stored a little more emergency supply fats than required will be happy because as toxins are stored in the fat these will be burned used as fuel losing as much as 1-2 lbs every 1-2 day (and more if you’ve been really stocking up those pounds).

Those of you who wish to maintain their start weight this is obtained easily with only a few minor adjustments to your programme.

As you progress further into the cleansing process, your body moves to repairing old injuries. Your body’s ability to heal is directly related to lifestyle. So if you were living on junk food and let’s say smoking the level to which your body would be able to heal itself at the time of the injury would have been compromised.

This stage is very beneficial though it can be a little unpleasant as old injuries may become irritated for a short period whilst healing.

After you have completed your cleansing period and your body and mind is sparkly and new it’s time to move toward re-introducing whole foods to your diet, this will be done gradually. We recommend that the total amount of days that you have cleansed for should be divided in two and that will be an indication of days after which you should only eat raw or slightly cooked vegetables and fruit.

You will be more aware and sensitive to what you consumed prior to your cleanse. Foods that would send you into a wild frenzy of greed may now make you feel nauseous at the mere thought of putting them in your mouth, making it all the more easier to make those good food choices.

How much weight will I lose?

How much weight you lose really depends on your start weight and on the purpose of your cleanse. Weight loss for a larger person can be from 2-3 lbs per day slowing down to 1-2 lbs every 2-3 days. Many toxins are stored in fat cells and whilst consuming a juice only diet the body breaks these down for fuel. If weight loss is not your main objective then alterations will be made to your programme to stabilize your weight.

Will I gain all my weight back after the cleanse?

If you simply go back to bad eating habits and do not make any lifestyle changes then the simple answer is yes. However, that would make starting the program pointless in the first place. We aim to re-educate you in the way you eat, and fuel your body. Naturally, you will gain a few pounds as you reintroduce foods to the digestive system and colon, but this is just transitional weight. Most people find that after cleansing and adjusting their diet, weight loss continues…

Can I exercise while cleansing?

YES! You can maintain a level of regular activity during your programme. Your coordinator will have assessed your lifestyle during your consultation and will ensure that you have the correct amount of juices to suit your levels of exertion. Do remember though that all of the hard work is being done on the inside so just enjoy relaxing and getting fit without feeling the need to pound the gym.

You may feel that at times you could easily tackle a marathon but you may find that sometimes enthusiasm outweighs stamina.

Will I become protein deficient?

As part of your programme, you will be given a green algae call ‘Spirulina’ which has a very high protein content but your body protein will be preserved anyway due to the carbohydrate content of the juices. However, continuing a juice only cleanse for too long is likely to increase the risk of losing body protein, which is why the cleansing programmess are tailored to the individual.

The body has a store of protein, and it uses it selectively. Dying and sick cells will be the first to be used and eliminated. The body would only use healthy and vital tissues as a very last resort to survive. And we’re not trying to be like Gandhi here we just want to do a little ‘Detox’ so do not worry about your protein store.

Protein cells will reduce in size (not disappear) but any changes will rectify themselves post cleansing. Your lean tissue may reduce by dehydration, which is why fluids are vital to the program.

What is an alkaline diet?

Just as our bodies need to stay within a certain temperature range to function properly, our blood also has specific pH range of its own that it needs to maintain. Our blood pH is tightly regulated by a complex system of buffers that are continuously at work to maintain a range of 7.35 to 7.45.

If the pH of your blood falls below 7.35, the result is a condition called acidosis, a state that leads to central nervous system depression.

Over acidification of the of the blood leads to an instant deterioration in health, starting with common complaints such as fatigue, depression, poor digestion, weight gain, inability to gain weight, headaches, poor memory, PMS, sleep disorders and on and on until we get to the more life threatening ones such as heart disease and all the other ‘Nasties’ that we know so well.

The increase of disease throughout our generations have stemmed from two simple things… Diet and lifestyle! We move around less and are surrounded by a phenomenal amount of dangerous and toxic radio waves and chemicals. Then there is diet. Most natural produce that we consume has been treated with pesticides, chemicals and grown in over farmed land, so that it comes to us toxic and with only a trace of the nutrients that it should have. Then we have processed foods, the over consumption of hormone and disease ridden meats, dairy products, hydrogenated fats, fast foods, fried foods, sweets, artificial sweeteners, caffeine and alcohol to name but a few! Even the water that we drink (bottled water included, bar Evian and a few other leading brands which have pH levels of) is acidic due to its processing packaging.

It really is no wonder that our bodies are just giving up the fight. We are not built to CONSISTENTLY sustain this amount of internal and external pollution!

As dramatic as this all sounds (AND IS!), there is no need to panic. With the right information and some changes to your diet, you can repair and prevent many conditions caused by over acidification of the blood.

We do this by increasing the amount of alkaline foods and fluids that we consume and reducing the amount of acidic foods and fluids, we consume.

Our diet should consist of 80% alkaline foods and 20% acidic foods. (We suggest that that you print the Acid/Alkaline food list provided for you and for a few weeks keep this on your refrigerator and take it with you when you go to the supermarket to do your grocery shopping. Soon enough you will know them off by heart.)

Hydration and the fluid that we hydrate ourselves with also has a major effect on our blood pH. Approximately 70% of the human body is water, the brain is composed of 70% water, the lungs are nearly 90% water, and about 83% of our blood is water. Therefore, we should generally be aiming to drink 3 litres of alkaline fluid a day. Alkaline fluid being, filtered or bottled water with either lemon juice or pH drops added to increase its alkalinity.

Green powders can also be added to your water (This is a combination of alkaline vegetables and herbs which will increase the alkalinity of your water and provide you with a wide range of natural, organic, vitamins and minerals).

Alkalizing your blood through food and hydration is without doubt the number one thing that you can do to achieve optimum health!

Raw & Juicy provide free delivery to all London postcodes. An additional delivery fee is applied at addresses outside London and the UK. Please contact Raw & Juicy for your individual delivery quote (For most UK addresses an additional £8.50 per day is applied).

What time do you deliver?

For London deliveries our drivers will aim to reach you between 6-10pm. If there is not a safe place to leave the juices outside your home or a porter to leave them with, then we can arrange a specific delivery time that suits you. Please just speak with your coordinator when booking and they will arrange all requirements.

What is your refund policy?

We offer a full refund up to 2 days before your start date. 50% after 2 days and due to our courses being bespoke & our product highly perishable, we do NOT offer refunds once your course has commenced.

Can I do your program whilst pregnant or breast feeding?

It is important when pregnant or nursing to have a whole and varied diet, so a juice ONLY diet is not recommended during this time. We can however provide you with juices to drink alongside your regular diet. Please contact us for details.

Can I change my course from Alkaline to combination (or vice versa) once my course has started?

Its absolutely fine to switch courses once you have started. Sometimes its difficult to know which you prefer until you have tried it. Our team are very flexible and friendly and will keep amending your program until its right for you!

How do I know which cleanse is best for me?

We offer two types of cleanse, Alkaline & combination. Both programs are effective in clearing the digestive system, increasing energy, weight loss, and nutritional replenishment, though the alkaline cleanse contains less sugar, more vegetables and is therefore much better for the body on a cellular level.

Is there a minimum age for a person to use your service?

We generally do not offer our juice only programs to anyone under the age of 18 years.

How long do your programmess run for? Is there a minimum that I have to book?

Our courses run from 1-90 days. There is no minimum amount of days that must be booked. Again, if you would like to contact us we can help you decide which duration is best for you.

Is your produce organic?

We buy at least 90% organic. We offer such a large variety of ingredients that we struggle to find 100% of our produce organic… we’re always working very hard to improve that ratio though.

Do you offer discounts for people that simultaneously do the cleanse and are at the same delivery address?

Yes. Discounts are available for people sharing a delivery address. Please contact the office for a personalized discount.

Which parts of Europe do you deliver to and what is the cost of shipping?

We use FEDEX and CITILINK to ship outside the UK. Prices will vary depending on the weight and destination of the box. Please contact us with you full address for an accurate quote.

Can I start my cleanse any day of the week?

Yes. You can start your day any day of the week.

How much notice to I need to give you to book in for a cleanse?

As our juices are prepared daily and are bespoke to your personal lifestyle and dietary requirement, we usually require 24 hours notice, though we can sometimes get them to you sooner. You can contact us on 0208 670 0445 during office hours or 07734 396 371 another time.

How do I pay?

Payment is taken on the booking page of this site, using a credit or debit card. We do not yet accept American Express.

I have a social engagement I will have to eat at during my programme. Will this ruin my cleanse?

If you let your coordinator know which restaurant you are going to, they can (anonymously) call ahead to the restaurant and find out what they have on the menu that will least compromise your cleanse.

Do I have to do the enema?

Though we do value the enema as an important part of the cleanse, if you are uncomfortable with it your coordinator will happily provide you with an alternative colon cleansing method.
